Original artwork by Sean Danconia, created on behalf of a proposed King Features Syndicate official “Popeye” Art + Product collection.
“Popeye · Yokosuka Sailor” embodies the iconic sailor in his first trip the “The Japans”, featuring a visual aesthetic inspired by E.C. Segar’s original fused with the Fleischer and Post-Fleischer Famous Studios rendition.
The artwork features Brutus, Olive, Wimpy and friends along with iconography from Japan (hanafuda, etc.), England and America’s naval expansion including MacArthur’s famous ‘rules you break’ quote—topped off with a gorgeous green can of Wasabi (even better than spinach!).
